David Myung is a physician-scientist that has led the development of a number of early stage medical innovations. He is currently a cataract surgeon and attending physician at the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, a teaching hospital of the Stanford University School of Medicine. As a resident at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford, he was the lead inventor of Paxos Scope™, the first smartphone-based ophthalmic imaging system for both anterior and posterior segment photography that was sponsored by the Stanford Biodesign Program.  It is now being commercialized by DigiSight Technologies and is FDA-registered as a 510k Class II exempt ophthalmic camera.  Dr. Myung graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University with a degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology, and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and M.D. from Stanford University where he was a Bio-X Fellow for his interdisciplinary research on biomimetic polymers.  His dissertation work was centered on the development of novel hydrogel corneal implants and also served as the foundation for an orthopaedic biomaterials technology that was licensed out of Stanford into a venture-backed startup that he co-founded.  He is a co-author on 18 peer-reviewed and pending scientific publications, two book chapters, and a co-inventor on 8 issued U.S. patents with numerous pending U.S. and international patent applications.
